Love of the week: Laurels

My favourite trend for the summer has to be floral crowns, or laurels. Pretty and feminine, they add a girly touch to any outfit! Here are some of my favourites:

If you can't find your perfect floral crown, why not make your own? Thread a length of fine wire through rosebuds, full blooms, leaves and even berry sprigs to make a laurel to match every outfit. I find rosebuds easiest to thread - and if any wire shows between the flowers and greenery, wrap it in ribbon to hide it. Here's a how-to guide: Make-a-Floral-Headdress

The Best of Black and White

Monochrome is having a fashion moment: whether in stripes, prints, (un-)colour blocked or straight up, the trusty LBD meets the LWD for the chic-est of evening wear.
A star of Helmut Lang’s ss12 catwalk show was this silk chiffon mini dress. With panels of suede and sequin embellishment, this graphic piece proves that black and white doesn’t need to be boring.

The king of figure hugging evening wear, Hervé Léger, also delivers in monochrome with this strapless bandage dress. Famous for creating the most flattering of silhouettes, this iconic number with its statement panelling is ideal for the high glamour stakes.

For a more subdued take on the trend, but an equally flattering silhouette, look to Narciso Rodriguez’ silk-satin and crepe, tailored, cocktail dress. The cleverly cut panels nip in the waist and slim the silhouette. The sleek and simple cut is the perfect backdrop for the addition of a statement accessory or two.

Love of the week: Royal Jewels

Prince Charles, in his televised Jubilee tribute, spoke of how he loved to see ‘my Mama’ in her wonderful diamonds. The royal collection is so extensive that a Crown Jeweller has to be on 24-hour call. It’s the history of royal jewellery that makes it so special for me. For her own wedding, the Queen was lent the King George III Fringe Tiara

which had first belonged to Queen Victoria. So it’s fitting that she in turn lent the Cartier Halo Tiara to the then Kate Middleton when she married Prince William.

History and sentiment are bound up in these jewels. George VI adored his daughter, which is why my next pick is the earrings from the King George VI Victorian Suite, which he gave her as a wedding present.

 One of the most splendid of the Queen’s other sapphire pieces is Prince Albert’s Sapphire & Diamond Brooch.

You can see here that she wears it often.

At her mother’s funeral, the Queen wore one of Queen Victoria’s bow brooches, which had been worn at two coronations and passed to the Queen Mother.

What wonderfully romantic heirlooms such jewels are! Wouldn't be wonderful to have them all in your drawer? I'm sure I will have some difficulties in choosing which one to wear!

It's T Time..

The once humble t-shirt has had a luxe makeover this season: no longer simply a basic cover up, this summer laid back elegance comes in pull on form. With the abundance of ladylike tailoring that looks to continue throughout the upcoming autumn/winter season, the perfect foil is the relaxed glamour of fashions most luxurious T’s.
Top of the T’s is this super soft, floral print, Christopher Kane piece. With a slightly sheer finish and delicately loose fit, it is the perfect juxtaposition to a touch of leather or a sharply tailored pencil skirt.

Alternatively, go graphic with Proenza Schouler’s geometric print T. Bright and bold and beautifully simple, tuck it in to classic less-is-more tailored skirts for streamlined chic.

Pair your favourite black skinnies with this monochrome, drape back T from By Malene Birger. Add gladiator flats for day and swap for towering heels and statement gold jewellery for evening glamour.

British designer Emma Cook’s take on the T-shirt trend comes in printed silk. This blush toned T is the perfect partner to berry hued tailoring or denim.

Whether floral, geometric or monochrome, for laid back luxury it is undoubtedly time to embrace the T.

Terra Vergine

Just opened in Chelsea, inspired by Gabriele d'Annunzio's book of the same name is Terra Vergine an Italian specialising in the cuisine of the Abruzzo region. The namne comes from the unpolluted region full of beauty and kind people. 
The restaurant in the same vein seeks to provide delicate, pure and refined dishes. 


Decor is simple neutral colours fitting with the pure theme with beading hanging from the back walls. Perhaps deliberately simple for the focus to remain on the food.  As soon as you come in the door, there's a bar - ideal for having an aperatif at before sitting down to eat and amenable for milling around having drinks.

Starters are traditional Italian ingredients packed full of flavour with antipasti offers including prosciutto and melon, beef carpaccio garnished with cherry tomatoes and parmesan curls, crostini and cheese balls. First courses or primi are fresh taglietelle with truffle and mushrooms whilst typical Abruzzan main dishes include steak with rocket, cherry tomatoes and parmesan shavings. Whilst pudding includes classic Italian favourites - crepes with orange, caramelised sugar and GRand MArnier, tiramisu and 'torta della nonna' cake.

Apparently frequented by renowned people such as the Queen's hairdresser, Ian Carmichael, Mika and Lee John of Imagination, it's reputedly popular with both creatives and  professionals alike, including the Italian Chamber of Commerce president in London.

Love of the week: Trendy Nail polish

One thing that can completely ruin your look is a "not-so-trendy" nail polish. Trisori is here to help you in  choosing the trendiest nail polish for Summer 2012.

Going to Maximum Lengths

This season maxi-lengths rule supreme. With the dominance of lady-like fashion the past few seasons, from Mad Men pencil skirts to 40’s style tailoring, the mini skirt has taken something of a back seat. Demure feminine has been the name of the game and nothing says effortless elegance quite like the sweeping lengths of this summer’s maxi skirts. 

From Boy. By Band of Outsiders this floor length maxi with azure blue toile du jouy print is an ideal accompaniment to the seasons spate of cropped tops. Keep the top fitted and the shoes flat for perfectly polished daytime elegance.

For evening Just Cavalli’s monochrome, satin, print maxi skirt is a leg lengthen-er par excellence. A flattering floor skimmer, it will come into its own paired with simple heels and a luxe tee or fine knit jersey. 

If you don’t fancy going all out in swathes of fabric, Helmut Lang has the answer with this graphic print, asymmetrical, jersey skirt. With the thigh high cut away you can channel the trend without fear of being swamped in excesses of material. Wear with chunky gold jewellery and ankle boots for a versatile day to night look.

A simple white blouse paired with A.L.C.s classic Allegra maxi skirt will complete a chic ensemble. The demure watercolour effect print is juxtaposed with a daringly high slit up the centre seam. After all, just because we are embracing longer lengths this summer, it needn’t mean that our legs get overlooked; what a waste that would be of tanning season!
