Love of the week: Chunky bangles

Chunky bangles are a great accessory for 2012, and are so beautiful in their simplicity that they can match almost any outfit you put together. In particular, fabric bangles are in fashion, and a mixture of silk and gold is sure to make you look elegant and well-dressed. Try earthy colours such as greens and browns if you prefer a more neutral look, like these lorenza and grace bracelets:

or, if you plan to make a statement, why not try rich and royal purples, blues and reds.

 Gem studs look great for something a little more edgy, making your outfit simultaneously chic and classy.

Try pairing any such bangle with a dress such as this:

for a great look. If you choose the richer colours, you enhance the dresses potential to look regal and dressed-up, whereas if you utilise something a little more natural, you can create a much more causal look. In particular, a gem-studded bangle will look great with a full-length dinner dress, as it adds a little danger to your style!
Bangles can look great alone or as a part of a group, and it's a good idea to vary thick bangles with slimmer ones if you want to wear more than one. Thick bangles with a little gold detail look great paired with a couple of slim fully gold ones! 

#LFW Ashley Isham LOVE

On Saturday I attended Ashley Isham's fashion show, one of Trisori’s favourite designers,  at Goldsmith’s Hall. I was really excited to finally meet the infamous inflatable post Pop artist Pandemonia sitting front row as well!! It had to be a drag sitting behind her though since she is 7ft tall.

The London-based Singaporean designer's SS12 collection was mainly silk draped gowns, so I was a bit perplexed when I saw the eccentric style of the crowd itself, among them being Jodie Harsh and Jamelia Jamil. His work is known throughout Europe and Singapore, and has even graced the red carpet by the likes of Gaga.

When the lights dimmed, and the acoustic rhythms of Drive filled the decadent hall, the first model graced the runway wearing an exquisite sheer black lace hooded cape lined with a broad leather trim to weigh it down. 

It was stunning and one of my favourite pieces. Its white counterpart of only lace flowing down the runway shortly thereafter.

The opening was promising with French lace and leather combos, tailored city girl suits, antique gold silhouettes reminding me of  Mary Kantratzou’s peplum skirt , bold patterned prints used on Kimono styled capes, and embellished boleros and tube dresses.  All designs ranging from everyday living to evening wear.

Most of the dresses used exposed back zippers, similar to Victoria Beckham’s line last year, and the Grecian draped dresses reminded me ancient times.

Isham closed the catwalk by tying the collection back to the beginning and ending with, I believe, his forte of naughty meets nice- leather and lace dresses. In particular, two shorter dresses – one being a beautiful patriot blue lace and leather dress, the other a gold embellished lace fit.

Either way, it was an overall good show. I can see how his collections attract globally as they are mostly easy to wear, simple yet elegant. I also got my picture and a small chat with Pandemonia who, as my friend pointed out, seemed to be hitting on me. Not bad for a Saturday night.  

Fearless

'Tis nearly the end of year, that excruciating time when we do the sums of our achievements during the year and set the (unrealistic) objectives for the new one. Not so many years ago TE set itself exactly one of these preposterous tasks, something absurd which was a combination of losing weight/ shop like there's no tomorrow AND find a boyfriend.


Honestly, you can see where that was going...!


This year, TE feels it has achieved most of the cherished goals (minus the weight-loss thing...damn you chocolate!). TE feels happy and, yes, one might even say fearless! Not in the arrogant pompous way but more in a self-secure and calming way. Life is good and it just keeps getting better - goes to show that a positive attitude can do miracles. Ok I am not going to get all self-help-bookey on you gals, we all know how uncool that is!


Having said that, however, I am dedicating my last blog entry of the year to something that is very fashionable: Comfort. (Yes, I did pick up on the pj trouser trend and No, I will most def not be adopting it).


My list of comfort items would have to include:
1) A soft and loose fitting boyfriend cachemire jumper, as available at JCrew:

3) Stretchy jeans, so much better than the ones you can barely squeeze into (and still have the cool factor), recently loving these from Comptoir des Cotonniers:

Ok so finally, as the ultimate comfort factor of the year TE would haste to recommend Shellac manicures - great colour, lasts for 3 weeks = hands permanently tidy!


My dears, have a great end to the year and an even better beginning to the new one...as they say in some countries, what you do on NYE you will do all year. (TE might be scoffing cheese and wines, not too shabby right?!).

The legendary Dontella Versace, has designed some of the most exquisite collections in history cementing her brand as one of the most luxurious lines on the designer market. Although I have often dreamt of having my very own Versace number hanging in my wardrobe, I was convinced this could not be a reality any time soon. But from November 17th a reality it is, due to a greatly anticipated collaboration with high-street brand H&M, allowing Versace's creative genius to be accessed by a wider audience.

As H&M have just released a few select looks from the H&M 2011 collaboration range (which will be quickly followed by a pre-spring collection in January 2012) i thought i would chose a few of my favorite looks to get you just as excited as me!

Not as show-stopping but a must-have, none the less is the little black dress. This corseted black dress paired with a feisty pair of heels and a bright statement clutch, is an essential to any fabulous collection.

Update your wardrobe: prints!

Updating your wardrobe can be a costly affair as fashion moves so fast; you will need a loan to buy everything you need to look cool.

Of course the good old H&M can help with some bits and bobs but the quality of their garments completely puts me off.

Hang on Greece! 3 Artistic reasons to save the Country.

In this uncertain economic climate, we are all worried that the lovely Greece is going to default soon, declare bankrupcy and get out of the Euro zone. What does it mean for the Greek culture and artistic scene? Certainly, it is going to be very tought for Greek artists to survive in a distressed economy. We risk not to be able to appreciate anymore the amazing things we absolutely LOVE about the Hellenic land. Here are my reasons to save Greece from the downfall:

1) Theòdoros Angelòpoulos. 

A Greek film maker who directed the Beekeeper movie with Marcello Mastroianni in 1986.I love this quote from the movie:

Her designs are unmistakable.  At the age of 27 she is already consider one of the most promising designers.

Beautifully crafted terraces, Italian mansions, are all images reproduced in Mary's dresses. Each piece is a stroke of architectural genius. I must own one. Soon.

Stylishly Warm This Autumn

Autumn is here, and one of the lovely things it brings with it is the wonderful fall fashion. This can mean tight black dresses with big zips that nod to the 'fetish' trend, or even block, platform shoes that scream 70s, but for me it means cosy, comfortable, casual, after all, the worst part of the day has to be the commute and why make it even worse by being unbearably uncomfortable.

With that in mind, and credit card in hand, I set out to get my autumn wardrobe well and truly sussed - which, after a bit of research, includes these wearable, cosy and chic must-have autumn items:

The Snood: What is a snood I hear you say?!! I had been asking myself that very same question, and it wasn't until I bought one that I realised what a revolutionary wardrobe item this is. A round scarf that you loop over your head, silly as it sounds, not only keeps my ears and neck nice and toasty but it looks fantastic too and goes with almost everything in my closet! This Paul Smith Cable Knit Snood, is a definite must-have this season. £110

The Statement Trousers: For comfort or for street cred- I think these Jersey Cuffed Trousers are a perfect autumn purchase. Baggy and loose, they show off your figure without leeching on to your every curve. This statement harem cut has not left the building just yet. Asos do a great pair and for only £20.

Special Socks: For socks this season there is only one place you should look - Toast. They do what they say on the tin: keep your feet warm and toasty and, boy, do they do it in style. Instructions: put on immediately upon entering your lovely home for best cosy results. £59

Personal Shopping in Topshop: Warning - Once you've had it you'll never go back

For my sister, Saskia's, birthday she got given a session with the wonderful Personal Shoppers at my all time favourite store, Topshop. And the best part? She was allowed to bring a friend, and out of moral duty, she picked me!

Topshop launched in 1964, and since then it has gone from strength to strength - now forming more of a fashion institution rather than a clothes shop. Its huge range promises something for everyone and I, for one, can lose the best part of an afternoon scanning their flagship Oxford Circus store.

We met in Tophop's accessories department. Sass was late, so I was head to toe in Tophop's finest jewellery by the time she arrived... as you do. After removing all the bits and pieces I had been trying on while waiting for her, we headed straight to the Personal Shopper department, which is in the far corner of the lower ground floor. Walking in is like finding an oasis in a desert, and you soon realise that this is the first class of shopping experiences. I am a huge fan of Topshop but one thing I find hard to handle is the hustle and bustle of it's shop floor. It makes me stressed and tired within minutes of arriving and don't even think about trying anything on with those cues!

The Personal Shopping area is a world away from that. On arrival we were met by a very pretty shop assistant who offered us both tea (yes please, no sugar) before going to our own, personal changing room. Equipped with two rails of tailor-made looks and a big, comfy armchair, your whole body instantly relaxes. We were then introduced to our two, very own, personal shoppers, both tall and beautiful and perfect adverts for the store's clothes.

Playsuits, coloured jeans and sparkly tops adorned the changing room walls and we were then given a run down of each individual outfit. I could see my sister's eyes light up with each item she pulled of the rail. But there were some 'no-no's' of course, too; like a woolly jumper that had a picture of a sheep on it and a pair of multi-coloured metallic leggings that had more place in a 1980's music video than on my teenage sister's legs. 

Once left to our own devices we quickly established the 'no's' from the 'yes's'. The first item she tried on was a big hit; an elegant, black playsuit that had daisies made out of gems sewn on to it. Next up, another playsuit, although this time floral, instantly made the cut too, as did a pair of the navy blue 'Jamie' jeans - that are so deliciously comfortable that i'd wear them in bed.

With our YES's firmly decided upon and after 1 hour spent in this shopaholic's paradise, we paid for our goodies and left. We then decided to have a quick whizz around the shop floor, just to check that we hadn't missed out on anything else... and that was when I realised. I realised what an absolute luxury it was to have your clothes chosen for you, to not have to battle with the girl next to you for the last size 10 on the rail and the heavenly piece and quiet of our own personal changing room. It is rather like first class on an airplane; once you have had a taste of it, you'll find it very hard to go back to economy ever again.

Get with the J. Crew

The women of England screamed with delight when it was recently announced that J. Crew, one of the most coveted brands in the US (particularly on the east and west coasts), is coming to the Uk. They recently launched a few of their collections on net-a-porter, but we wanted more and now we are going to get it since you can now buy from the online store and have the clothes shipped here (FYI - the prices displayed on the website in GBP look a little strange as they have just been converted from the US $). J. Crew has been adored by celebrities for many years, everyone from Michelle Obama to Rachel Bilson are fans, and now we're getting a piece of the pie too.

During this post-summer holiday time of year our thoughts turn to our what new things we will wear to work and J. Crew is just what we need for our wardrobe inspiration. Affordable cashmere sweaters, neat blazers and pretty shirts all come together to form a fabulously preppy collection. I am particularly in love with this Vintage Tweed Jacket in mustard (£184.23) (below) which I will no doubt wear to death this Autumn.
Not only great for work though - the new collection also contains the most perfect weekend clothes. Warm and comfortable, these 70's style High Waisted Skinny Cords (£83.28) (below) are perfect for this winter and they are machine washable.

Everything about J. Crew is comfortable, easy and yet achingly trendy. And the best part? It doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Don't be afraid to wear block colours. This dress is very pretty in sage green, which will set off a tan nicely, but if you're daring enough it also comes in burnt orange which will ensure that your entrance won't go unnoticed.

Simple and Sexy: No.2 Pencil Skirt in Double-Serge Wool (£111.65)
This is perfect for a wintery day in the office. I love the way it is teamed casually with an oversized jumper for comfort and style. The classic 50's design never fails to flatter, this is an outfit that transcends time and one well-worth investing in.
